How much is 6.4 billion??

The House recently passed $6.4 billion school bill with the goals of producing hundreds of thousands of jobs, reducing energy consumption, creating healthier, cleaner environments for the nation's schoolchildren and teaching them to be green leaders for our future.

The bill would go to helping schools build, modernize and repair facilities to make them healthier, safer and more energy-efficient.

Children these days learn in buildings with poor lighting, bad air quality, leaking roofs and ill-functioning furnaces.

Thankfully, the bill also approved a separate $600 million for public schools in Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama damaged by hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005.

Among the amendments approved were items that would make reducing asthma a guideline for green schools and allow funds to be used for playground equipment, phys ed facilities, greenhouses and gardens. Woo hoo! Go Obama!!!
