Digital TV

On June12, 2009 all full-power broadcast television stations in the United States will stop broadcasting on analog airwaves and begin broadcasting only in digital. And, since I work in TV- I figured I'd post a little more information about this switch.

Advantages of Digital TV:
  • Stations can offer a sharper picture and improved sound quality
  • Because of the size of the digital signal, stations will be able to broadcast multiple channels at once... therefore
  • Creating additional space for MORE channels and...
  • Allowing for an improved emergency-broadcast channel (in this post 9/11, Katrina world)
This won't effect most people, however, if you have a TV that looks like the one on the left, (ie- dating in the pre 200ish era or are still using rabbit ears,) you may need to get a new TV.

Find out more about whether or not you will be impacted by the digital TV (DTV) transition.
